Veneers are highly effective in enhancing the appearance of a person’s teeth and correcting noticeable dental flaws. They consist of wafer-like shells that are placed over the top of one’s teeth and secured using a special adhesive. Many patients are choosing to receive veneers as a form of cosmetic dental treatment due to their general simplicity and excellent versatility.
Veneers are used to correct a variety of issues, such as:
- Color adjustments
- Fixing crooked or misshapen teeth
- Repairing chipped or damaged teeth
- Adjusting the size of teeth
Because of their ultra-thin design, veneers are virtually undetectable to others. When placed over the teeth, they offer the full appearance of healthy, white tooth enamel. Since veneers are built from materials resistant to staining, they are not prone to discoloration caused by tobacco products or beverages such as coffee and wine. With proper care, veneers are designed to last for up to a full decade. We use porcelain veneers due to the natural look and superb functionality of the material.
Since our veneers are custom-made using impressions of their teeth, a patient must make two visits to our practice to receive veneers. The first step is to shave off some of the enamel of the designated tooth. This is done so the veneer can be properly fitted. Next, the specific color of the veneer is determined, and impressions of the tooth are taken. This information is sent to a special dental laboratory where the custom veneer will be constructed. To hold the patient over while their custom veneer is being built, they will be fitted with a temporary restoration.
When the patient returns for their second visit, the temporary restoration will be removed, and the tooth will be cleaned and have its surface roughened using etching gel. By roughening the surface of the tooth, the veneer will be able to bond properly. The custom veneer will then be placed over the surface of the tooth and secured using a dental adhesive. Once the process is finished, the patient will receive special instructions on how to care for their new veneer.
